givemesomethingtoread: I’m writing this on January 28th, 2011, at 11:53 AM Cairo time, although I’m an ocean away from Cairo. But, as someone wrote the other day on Twitter, yesterday, we were all Tunisian; today, we are all Egyptian, and tomorrow, we will all be free. So today I am writing this on Cairo time. Perfectly Imperfect: Translating life into words →
julie911: Do you ever have a hard time putting your feelings, thoughts and events of your day into words that describe and do justice to what you’ve felt, thought and experienced? That’s what’s happening to me these days. It’s not writer’s block, it’s more like a translation problem. It’s that life is complicated and divine and terrifying and thrilling and sad and joyful, and I want to write...

Great food and even greater company...
As much as I try to save my money, it is simply too irresistible. For me, it’s one of the best ways to catch up — especially if you’re cooking together. On Monday, I had a sushi feast with Claire :) And earlier, I tried my (new) favorite grilled cheese sandwich with Kali & LJ from this fantastic grilled cheese eatery. It is heavenly. Brie cheese, raspberry flavored marscapone...

With a little help from my friend, I waited on my first table today! I wish all customers were like that group → a father and mother with their two grown daughters. They were the friendliest and funniest bunch I’ve encountered so far. And the mother and one of the daughters had lovely British accents. They tipped $25 :D

My mom is making me clean out the bookshelf in our downstairs office because it’s filled with old binders and notebooks from high school. In true procrastinator fashion, I told myself I’d do it on Sunday. I did, however, look through some of my old stuff for amusement’s sake. Object of interest: Journalism Binder (2006-2007) In light of the recent ‘astrological...

Time Tested Beauty Tips
written by American writer, humorist, and educator, Sam Levenson For attractive lips, speak words of kindness. For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people. For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry. For beautiful hair, let a child run his or her fingers through it once a day. For poise, walk with the knowledge you’ll never walk alone. People, even more than things, have to be...

finding the unexpectedly pleasant
I once had this good friend in high school. She told everyone she was going to USC and moved right after graduation. Her friends — we thought she would keep in touch with us like she said she would, but as far as we know, she cut off communication with everyone. Once in a while, she would manifest in my thoughts. I wonder how she’s doing. Did she really go to USC? I hope she’s...
